Bonnie Canal

Resilience strategist. Transformation guide. Camino walker.
Tulane University. FEMA National Disaster Preparedness Training Center.

I’ve spent 20+ years helping organizations across higher education and public institutions survive what they didn’t see coming. Hurricanes. System failures. The moments when everything changes and you have to figure out what comes next.

Somewhere along the way, I realized the same principles apply to women navigating life’s biggest transitions. The ones that crack you open and ask you to rebuild.

Now I do both.

Navigating a life transition?

I created The Returning Project for women in the messy middle of transformation. Whether you're emerging from loss, leaving a career, reclaiming your identity, or simply asking "what now?", this is your place. If you’re here, you’re not behind. You’re becoming.

Building organizational resilience?

Through The Resiliency Institute, I help businesses and communities prepare for disruption. I also work with universities, research institutions, and public agencies worldwide. I am a global trainer for FEMA's National Disaster Preparedness Training Center, trusted by universities, nonprofits, and public institutions across the U.S.

Experience and Leadership

  • Master of Business Continuity MBCP (one of fewer than 700 worldwide)

  • Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRI) Program Leader of the Year, Nonprofit Sector, 2020

  • Trained 250+ communities for FEMA, through the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center at the University of Hawai'i

  • Currently trusted with a board seat at DRI Foundation (Higher Education Committee Director)

SPEAKING

I speak on resilience, reinvention, and what it takes to come back from the things that change us.

I work with leaders, institutions, and communities navigating change.

I'd love to hear from you (yes, I actually read my messages)

Wherever you are in your journey, this is a good place to begin.

Inward. Onward. Go.
