You Are Not Broken. The System Went Down.

There is a specific kind of not-knowing that has nothing to do with weakness.

Most hard things have a category. Grief goes to one closet. Anger goes to another. Disappointment has its own shelf. We have been building this system since we were old enough to have hard things, and it is actually quite good by now. It knows where to file things. It has been doing this for decades.

And then something comes in that the system has never seen before. Not harder, necessarily. Just different in a way that has no category. The system opens and there is no drawer for this.

That is not a breakdown. That is a perfectly functional system encountering something it was never designed to process.

There is a name for it. Ontological shock. The moment the framework that has always explained your life stops being able to explain it. Not because the framework was wrong. Because what came at it exceeded its processing capacity.

We call that falling apart. It is not. It is the system going down while it figures out how to expand. The reboot is not glamorous. It does not happen on a schedule. It asks nothing of you except to stay in it while it runs.

But it runs. That is the thing nobody says out loud. The system runs. It finds its footing. It comes back online. And when it does, it is bigger than it was before, because it now has a drawer for this.
