The Trigger Is Not the Cause
Something happens and we react. That is the sequence as we usually understand it. The thing happens, the reaction follows, and the reaction is about the thing that happened.
Except that is not actually what is happening.
What is happening is: something happens. And it touches a thread inside us that was already there, already alive, already carrying something. And the reaction is not about what just happened. The reaction is about what that thing touched. The thread is the cause. The trigger just found it.
This is why the same woman can have two completely different responses to two nearly identical things on the same day. The first one touches a thread. The second one does not. Same outside. Two different insides. Two different women, in a way, in that moment.
This is not inconsistency. This is information. The reaction is telling you something true about what is alive inside you right now. The thread that got pulled is worth knowing about. Not to judge it, not to fix it, but to know it. Because the thread you do not know about makes decisions for you. The thread you know about gives you a choice.
The trigger is not the problem. The trigger is the messenger. And the message is worth reading.
